About the series…
“I'll miss him" she said softly.
Ty nodded, "Me, too."
For a moment they both stood, stroking Chester in silence.
"Hey, cheer up," Ty said. Amy realised he was looking at her downcast face, "At least it means…"
"That another horse can come and be helped." Amy finished Ty's sentence for him. She grinned as she saw the surprise on his face, "We were thinking the same thing."
- Lauren Brooke “Coming Home”
Heartland is a special place made for troubled and mistreated horses to find rest and comfort in their struggles. Nestled deep in the Virgina Hills, Heartland brings peace, tranquility and rest for these horses and with the help from the people who live there they can finally learn to trust again.
Amy Fleming has lived at her Grandfather’s farm, Heartland, ever since she could remember and she wouldn’t change it for the world! With a stable block right on her doorstep, horses to be ridden and trained, Amy is as happy as she can be. She spends her days, when she is not a school, in the barn grooming, mucking out, mixing feeds and scrubbing saddles until they shine!
Amy learns by her mother’s side the different herbal remedies and training methods they use at Heartland to help the horses overcome their fears of being handled and ridden, learning to trust once again. Amy one day dreams of helping out even more with the troubled horses that arrive at her home for training and help, but one night everything changes after a fatal accident that turns Amy’s whole world around and she is left to care for and struggle through her mother’s work alone.
As Amy finds it hard to believe in herself after her loss, she has the help and support of her family and friends to help show her that her mother lives on in Heartland and through the work that they do there. ❤️
Her grandfather, her older sister Lou, her two best friends, Soraya and Matt, and the stable hand, Ty, will all come together to help keep Heartland afloat and show Amy that what she has to offer is trust, hope and love to the horses.
Through the series we watch Amy grow from a young teenager to almost an adult, where she makes mistakes, faces doubts, achieves her dreams, experiences sorrow and happiness, which she learns through the work she does at Heartland. We also meet new friends, family and all the horses she helps along the way!

My thoughts….
“She was so happy to see a horse and a human working together as equals. It was what Heartland was all about.”
-Lauren Brooke “Taking Chances”
I wish I had found out about these books sooner as I have always been around horses, so I know I would have been mad about them! 🐴
I first found out about this series when a friend gave me a copy of one of the Heartland special editions, after reading it I wanted to find out more about Amy and Heartland! Not long after, while perusing around a bookshop I noticed a high stack of books and on closer inspection I realised that they were the complete (almost!) series of Heartland!
After purchasing them, they did sit on my shelf for another two years until I finally decided it was time to read them this December, and I have so enjoyed reading them and becoming a part of Amy’s life at Heartland. I chose to read the whole series one after the other as I wondered if the plots and storylines would keep me interested through the full 24 books without becoming bored.
I can certainly say I wasn’t bored! Lauren Brooke’s way of writing was easy and exciting to read with new plots and characters in each book. I did read some of these books within a day at times for the plots kept me wondering “What is going to happen next?” and I just had to finish them! ❤️
I love horses and Natural Horsemanship training methods, so I enjoyed reading about the techniques used at Heartland, similar to methods used by Monty Roberts and Kelly Marks. I was able to learn more about the “listening to the horse” training side of riding, which I have always grown up with. 🐴
I had been reading a few non-fiction and classics books before Heartland, so it was nice to have a bit of a break and read some fiction for a change! I would definitely recommend these stories to any horse lovers and I look forward to watching the TV show next and see how they adapted it from the books. 😊
“There was too much lightness in life to let the darkness overwhelm you, Amy reflected.”
